This has been my favorite alternative to a sandbox, simply because I don’t love sand in my home.
We worked on this as a family. Full disclosure: my daughter and I helped carry the materials and then claimed the role as “sitting managers”. The project was complete in a little over an hour.
Lots of beautiful free-play and imagination has taken place in the few weeks since constructing this.
Materials for a 3x5 Rock Box:
4 bags of pebble rocks (we dug about 4 inches deep and placed down weed liner before pouring the rocks)
22 stone pavers (and one larger one for a parking space)
A shovel and large level (mostly because Hubby was showing the kids the right way to place bricks together)
